Wildfire east of Manning Park spreads to over 700 hectares

EASTGATE, B.C. – A wildfire that ignited over the weekend east of E.C. Manning Provincial Park has expanded significantly in just a matter of days.

According to BC Wildfire Service’s online dashboard, the Placer Creek fire east of Manning Park has swelled in size from 40 hectares on Saturday to 725 hectares as of Monday morning, July 14. It was first discovered on Saturday.

“Sunday evening firefighting personnel, heavy equipment and aerial resources are actioning this wildfire,” B.C. Wildfire Service wrote on its website.

The fire exhibited Rank 2-3 behaviour, and was characterized by low vigour surface fire with a slow to moderate rate of spread.
