Pedestrian struck by train in Chilliwack Sunday morning

UPDATE 11:15 A.M. MONDAY: A spokesperson for the Chilliwack RCMP detachment has confirmed that a 43-year-old woman died after being struck by a train Sunday morning (July 13) in Chilliwack.

“On July 13, 2025, at approximately 6:30 a.m., Chilliwack RCMP responded to a report of a pedestrian being struck by a train near Aitken Road. Tragically, a 43-year-old Chilliwack woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. No further details will be released,” Chilliwack RCMP wrote in an email to Fraser Valley Today.

CHILLIWACK — Crews were on the scene of a stopped train this morning (July 13) after it hit a pedestrian near Ashwell Road.

Witnesses in the area reported that the train horn sounded at around 6:30 a.m., followed by the arrival of emergency vehicles, including RCMP and BC Emergency Health Services.

A BCEHS spokesperson said an ambulance with primary care paramedics and an ambulance with advanced care paramedics responded to the call in the 8000-block of Aitken Road, but no patients were taken to hospital.

Rail crossings on Ashwell Road, Young Road and Eagle Landing Parkway had all been blocked due to the incident. Closures have since cleared up as of 9:52 a.m.

RCMP has confirmed the collision, but no details on the victim are available at this time.

There have been at least two pedestrian-train collisions since the beginning of this year. In May, the Young Road rail crossing had also been closed off after a 28-year-old man was fatally struck by a train on a Wednesday morning.
