CHILLIWACK — The Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment (UFVRD) has announced a new officer-in-charge (OIC) following the departure of its previous leader in December 2024.

Superintendent Darren Pankratz had been working as a 9-1-1 dispatcher when he decided to be more involved with public safety, joining the RCMP over two decades ago.

His career took him all over the Lower Mainland. He started at the Coquitlam detachment in general duty, as a School Liaison Officer, and with the drug section.

The superintendent then served a stint at E Division, gaining additional experience with criminal intelligence and working with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) before returning to Coquitlam’s drug section and as a Watch Commander.

He swung back to BC RCMP as the acting OIC for the Criminal Intelligence Section, and in December 2021, he began working with the UFVRD.

“It’s a privilege to continue serving the communities of the Upper Fraser Valley,” said Supt. Pankratz.

“Living and working here for the past three and a half years has been immensely rewarding. I’m continually inspired by our outstanding team and look forward to leading our dedicated officers and staff as we strive to foster safe and healthy communities.”

His predecessor’s departure was announced in February of this year during a Chilliwack council meeting. Supt. Davy Lee had accepted a security position for the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup soccer games 2026.

“Over the past three and a half years, Council has had the opportunity to work closely with Superintendent Pankratz and has seen his dedication to our community,” said Chilliwack Mayor Ken Popove. “We are eager to continue working with him to build on the strong foundation of public safety in Chilliwack.”

Outside of work, Supt. Pankratz spends time with his family, coaches youth soccer and explores the region’s scenic trails.
