ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department has been keeping a close eye on the city’s traffic offenders over the past six months, and just yesterday (July 10), seven vehicles were impounded for speeding within a 24-hour period.

Three of the seven drivers exceeded the speed limit by double, including a 20-year-old N driver who was travelling 150 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on South Parallel Road at 6:55 a.m.

At 3 p.m., a 31-year-old driver was then caught driving 110 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Townshipline Road, and by the evening, a 43-year-old driver was clocked driving 105 km/h in a 50 km/h zone on Old Yale Road.

All seven drivers now face a week-long vehicle seizure and any related penalties for excessive speed and other infractions.

“Traffic enforcement is a regular topic of discussion here at AbbyPD,” wrote Sgt. Paul Walker, media relations officer for the AbbyPD, on Thursday. “Just yesterday, our teams met during our monthly operational meeting to review strategies to address the ongoing traffic violations we’re seeing across Abbotsford.”

More than 250 cars have been impounded for speeding since January in Abbotsford. Police have also issued roughly 3,000 violation tickets, removed over 640 impaired drivers, and responded to more than 400 collisions within the city.

Police are now asking residents to share their input on public safety in Abbotsford through the Community Safety Survey available online.
