MISSION — Mounties in Mission say a Ford pickup truck driver has been cited after crates full of freshly-picked blueberries crashed onto a busy Mission highway in late June, creating a sticky mess.

In a cheeky social media post, Mission RCMP say a white Ford pickup truck pulled up to the intersection of Wren Street and Lougheed Highway on Sunday evening, June 29. The truck pulled away, but not all the delicious Fraser Valley blueberries decided to come along. Police say some crates went crashing down onto the roadway, resulting in tens of thousands of spoiled blueberries being spilled onto Lougheed. It also created a sticky mess for vehicles that drove over the fruit.

Mission RCMP attended the scene, or what they called a “juicy incident,” and used a shovel to clear the roadway mess. The driver of the pickup truck received a ticket for having an insecure load, while othre motorists looked on as the cleanup effort was underway.

“And just as some people might turn lemons into lemonade, Mission RCMP would love to put an equally positive spin on things, as losing all those fresh blueberries was such a shame – even the ones squish-squashed by passing vehicles,” Mounties opined online. “Perhaps Mission RCMP could team up with the Mission Farmer’s Market in the future, to feature some new offerings such as: Jack-Knife Jelly, Pothole Preserves, and the ever-popular…Traffic Jam!”
