Chilliwack fire crews paged Wednesday evening after vehicle strikes fence and car, utility pole

CHILLIWACK — Multiple Chilliwack Fire Department engines were paged Wednesday night after a vehicle reportedly struck a fence and car, and made contact with a utility pole, on Wells Road near Richardson Avenue in Sardis.

According to scanner traffic, firefighters were first paged about a vehicle into a building at approximately 9:41 p.m. However, on arrival at the scene, firefighters discovered one vehicle had struck another parked car.

Pictures taken by Chilliwack residents David Seltenrich and Julie Hiscock at the scene show damage to a utility pole as well as a fence. Hiscock said a passenger vehicle went through a wooden gate, and struck another vehicle and a utility pole.

Firefighters radioed dispatch to say a utility pole had been compromised as a result of the crash, and BC Hydro would need to attend.

Power was disconnected from the vehicle that crashed. RCMP arrived on scene at approximately 9:51 p.m.

Scanner traffic indicated there were no reported injuries.

As of 10:55 p.m., dispatch advised Chilliwack fire crews who are still on scene at Wells Road that a Telus service technician would be arriving. Just a few minutes later, emergency dispatch spoke with BC Hydro and learned they were on their way with an ETA of less than an hour.

Firefighters told dispatch at 11:03 p.m. that Telus is now on scene. BC Hydro personnel have arrived on scene at approximately 11:05 p.m.

Telus and Hydro were still on scene as of 4 a.m., according to a witness.
