Chilliwack Fire attends business after U-Haul gas tank gets drilled, resulting in fuel spill
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack fire crews were dispatched Tuesday morning (Canada Day) for the report of a gas leak in the parking lot of a Chilliwack business, the same one that was heavily damaged by an attempted break-in earlier this year.
According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack fire crews were called to the Unsworth Market at 5660 Unsworth Road for the report of a gas leak. An unknown subject or subjects tried to drill a hole in a U-Haul gas tank, resulting in the gas spill.
Fire crews spread sand in the parking lot of the corner store on Tuesday morning. There were three U-Haul trucks in the parking lot of the business Tuesday morning when a Fraser Valley Today reporter visited the business. One U-Haul truck was impacted by the incident.
Chilliwack RCMP attended as well but the owners Mohit and Nina told Fraser Valley Today they’re not optimistic anything will be done or that a suspect will be caught. The two carried on with their normal business as Mohit checked inventory while Nina trimmed and pruned bushes and branches outside in the parking lot. The two often work well over 14 hours operating the small business, since the store is open 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.
