Update: Highway closed north of Lytton as fire grows to 25 hectares

UPDATE 10 P.M. TUESDAY NIGHT: BC Wildfire Service has confirmed at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday night (Canada Day) that the Izman Creek wildfire has grown to an estimated 25 hectares in size.

“We are currently responding to Izman Creek Wildfire (K70783), approximately 16 kilometres northeast of Lytton,” BCWS wrote on Facebook at 9:18 p.m. Tuesday night. “It is currently estimated at 25 hectares in size and is suspected to be human caused. Multiple BC Wildfire Service ground personnel are on site and being supported by aviation resources. This wildfire is displaying Rank 2 and Rank 3 fire behaviour meaning a surface fire with visible, open flame, infrequent candling and slow to moderate rate of spread. UPDATE at 8:40 p.m. — LYTTON —The Thompson Nicola Regional District has issued an Evacuation Order for three properties threatened by the Izman Creek wildfire along Highway 12 north of Lytton.

The three properties are:

  • 3965 Lytton-Lillooet Hwy 12
  • 4275 Lytton-Lillooet Hwy 12
  • 4461 Lytton-Lillooet Hwy 12

Those who are on the property must leave immediately. They should reach out to receive Emergency Support Services (ESS) by self-registering online or by contacting the Lillooet ESS at 250-256-8524.

In addition, nine other properties have been placed on an Evacuation Alert.

The BC Wildfire Service says the blaze remains out of control and had grown to 25 hectares by 8 p.m. July 1.

LYTTON — The BC Wildfire Fire Service is dealing with two fires in the Lytton area. The latest fire has grown to 4 hectares since being discovered earlier in the day. It’s located near Highway 12, linking Lytton with the community of Lillooet. DriveBC is reporting the highway has been closed to traffic.

The fire is designated as being out of control. The cause of the fire is undetermined.

The weather in the Lytton area has been hot and dry in the days leading up to Canada Day. The afternoon temperature soared to 35 °C while winds gusted up to nearly 50 km/hour.
