UPDATE: Victim identified in Surrey shooting death Thursday night

UPDATE 2:25 P.M. FRIDAY: IHIT has now identified the victim of a shooting in Surrey Thursday night (Jun. 26).

Investigators say 21-year-old Surrey resident Bilal Hameed was the driver of a car at the time of the incident. A black Dodge pickup truck was involved in the shooting and recovered – burnt – in the 9400 block of 184 Street shortly after.

“Police are working diligently to identify all parties involved in this shooting,” said Sgt. Freda Fong of IHIT. “Investigators are expected to be in the area interviewing witnesses, collecting evidence and canvassing for video.”

Police are asking for dashcam footage in the areas of the 10800 block of 129 Street on June 26 between 5:30 and 8:00 p.m., and/or the 9400 block of 184 Street on June 26 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m.

Hameed has had previous interactions with the police. Initial evidence suggests that the incident was targeted, and there is no ongoing risk to the public.

SURREY — Homicide investigators are now looking into an incident that left one person dead Thursday night (Jun. 26).

At around 7:40 p.m., the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded to calls of a shooting near the 10800 block of 129 Street. Frontline officers found one man suffering from life-threatening injuries, and despite life-saving measures, the man died at the scene.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) has since been deployed.

“The investigation is in the early stages and IHIT is working in partnership with Surrey Police Service officers to complete priority tasks,” wrote Surrey Police.

“While the motive is still under investigation, the incident does not appear to be random in nature.”

This death now marks Surrey’s fourth homicide in 2025. The last incident identified Abbotsford resident Satwinder Sharma as the victim of a targeted homicide on Wednesday, June 11.
