Abbotsford man hospitalized after being assaulted at a bus stop Tuesday evening

UPDATE 3:35 P.M. WEDNESDAY: Police in Abbotsford now say Tuesday evening’s incident connected to a reported assault at an Abbotsford bus stop involved a 20-year-old male who was stabbed from behind while waiting to board a bus.

According to an updated news release from AbbyPD spokesperson Sgt. Paul Walker, police were dispatched at 6:14 p.m. for the report of a stabbing in the 32700 block of South Fraser Way. Police say a 20-year-old male had been waiting to get on a bus when he was approached from behind by an unknown male and stabbed.

Sgt. Walker says the victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment. The suspect fled the scene on foot. He is described as a man in his 40s, approximately 6 feet tall, with a slender build and disheveled brown hair. At the time of the incident, he was wearing a black Nike t-shirt with the words “Just Do It” in bold white lettering on the front, along with black pants and black shoes. The AbbyPD Major Crime Unit has taken over the investigation.

Sgt. Walker says early findings suggest that the suspect and victim were not known to each other. No arrests have been made, and the suspect has not yet been identified.

Detectives are appealing to anyone who was in the 32700 block of South Fraser Way between 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m. and may have witnessed the incident or captured dashcam footage to contact the AbbyPD Major Crime Unit at 604-859-5225.

ABBOTSFORD — A spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department has confirmed that a man was hospitalized after being physically assaulted at a bus stop Tuesday evening.

According to a statement from AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker, frontline officers responded to an assault Tuesday evening, June 24 at 6:14 p.m. that happened outside a bus stop in the 32700 block of South Fraser Way.

Officers arrived and located a man suffering from non-life threatening injuries who, after being physically assaulted, was transported to hospital.

Sgt. Walker says the suspect fled the area and is outstanding. Patrol officers are in the process of working to identify the suspect and are actively patrolling the area.

Sgt. Walker said more information would be released about the incident as it becomes available.
