RCMP addresses social media post showing youth jumping off Mission Bridge
MISSION — RCMP are asking people to take down any posts showing a youth jumping off the Mission Bridge yesterday (Jun. 13).
Videos and photos of the incident went around online shortly before 5 p.m. that afternoon. The youth survived, was pulled into shore by Mission Search and Rescue, and taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
“Mission RCMP appreciate the public’s concern for the matter, but are asking that related videos and photos be immediately removed from social media, out of respect for the youth and their family and friends,” wrote police.
In 2023, the city council in Mission discussed the possibility of adding suicide barriers on the bridge. No suicide prevention measures exist on the 33-metre structure to this day.
