Chilliwack firefighters respond to basement blaze in over 100-year-old derelict home
CHILLIWACK — Fire crews have put out an early blaze in a derelict home Saturday (Jun. 14) after its basement went up in flames.
At around 1 a.m., the Chilliwack Fire Department found smoke coming from a single-family residential house in the 46000 block of Princess Avenue. Twenty-five firefighters from halls 1, 2, 4, and 6 responded as the call was upgraded to a structure fire.

Crews found the blaze coming from the basement and extending up inside the walls, up to the attic space. Despite the effective use of venting tactics and an offensive fire attack, the century-old home still suffered heavy fire, smoke and water damage. Its poor condition also allowed the fire to travel freely through the walls.
