FRANKFURT AM MAIN — Canada’s (Gentleman) Jim Long and Matt (Ginjaninja) Campbell lost 4-1 to Denmark on Friday, failing to advance out of the group stage at the BetVictor World Cup of Darts.
Long, from London, Ont., and Campbell, from Hamilton, were beaten 4-1 by Malaysia on Thursday. Malaysia’s Tengku Shah Tan Jenn Ming then beat Denmark’s Benjamin Reus Andreas Hyllgaardhus 4-1 to win the group and move on.
The Malaysians will face Czechia in the round of 16 Saturday.
The tournament started with 40 countries. The top four seeds — defending champion England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland — had a first-round bye while the rest of the field was divided into 12 pools with the group winner advancing.
