Abbotsford Canucks back home for final stretch of Western Conference series
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Canucks are looking to end their best-of-seven series against the Texas Stars after a 2-1 overtime loss on Friday (Jun. 6).
Despite earning a power play only 51 seconds into Game 5, Abbotsford was unable to get a shot past Stars goalie Magnus Hellberg. Texas forward Justin Hryckowian then took his chances during the penalty kill with a slippery shot that went right through Artūrs Šilovs’ legs.
Tensions on the ice heated up into a brawl with just under 40 seconds left in the second period. Ty Mueller and Alex Petrovic threw their gloves, sending away five other players from both teams with roughing or unsportsmanlike conduct penalties.
Canucks left-winger Arshdeep Bains tied up the game with a power play goal at 2:42 into third period, his first of the playoff season. With a 1-1 tie and two solid netminders, the game was sent to sudden death for the third time this series– though this one was a little short-lived.
