
Police execute search warrants amid spike in rural crime in Abbotsford
ABBOTSFORD — A spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department has confirmed that authorities executed two search warrants last month amid a significant increase in property crime in Sumas Prairie.
AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker says police in Abbotsford have observed a 67 per cent increase in property crime in Sumas Prairie from January 1-May 1, 2025, compared to the same period in 2024.
Through what Sgt. Walker calls an “intelligence-led approach,” AbbyPD identified several repeat prolific property offenders suspected of being actively involved in the recent surge in criminal activity within the area. In response, the AbbyPD Crime Reduction Unit (CRU) launched an investigation targeting these individuals.
On May 20, Lower Mainland Mainland ERT and LMD Integrated Police Dog Services, with support from the AbbyPD’s Drug Enforcement Unit, executed a search warrant at a property in the 39900 block of Campbell Road in Abbotsford. Three days later on May 23, authorities carried out a second search warrant in the 8700 block of Miles Road in Mission.
