CHILLIWACK — A massive garage sale will be held this weekend in Chilliwack to benefit indigent widows and orphans in Kenya through the efforts of a Chilliwack-based charity.

Since its inception over a decade ago, A Voice of Hope for Kenya has leveraged its Chilliwack connections in order to improve the living conditions of indigent widows and orphans in Kenya.

Chilliwack-area volunteers visit Kenya annually on a regular basis to provide tangible assistance to vulnerable women and children by facilitating opportunities for them to have better everyday lives and promoting self sustainability.

One of the primary fundraisers that enables Voice of Hope to maintain this yearly outreach effort happens this Saturday, June 7 with a garage sale from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 7350 Barrow Road in Greendale. There will be an abundance of items for sale like household goods, toys, gardening and other tools, sports equipment, furniture, and the like. The country market-style garage sale will have concessions for sale like coffee, stroop waffles, cinnamon buns, hot dogs, chips & cold drinks sold throughout the day.

All proceeds benefit widows and orphans in Kenya.

A Voice of Hope for Kenya was founded in 2013 when Chilliwack resident Mary Anne Westeringh accompanied her husband on a Hungry for Life trip to Kenya and Uganda. The objective of the trip was to acquaint board members and their guests with the various projects in which Hungry for Life was invested. Mary Anne saw an opportunity for further outreach materialize. Before long, the Voice of Hope organization was formed.
