CHILLIWACK — A new ice cream shop could be coming to downtown Chilliwack in the coming months.

Fraser Valley Today has learned that a company named Penguin Ice Cream has applied for a business license under that name with the City of Chilliwack.

Not a lot is known about the company at this point. According to the text of a Chilliwack job posting on Indeed.ca, Penguin Ice Cream is seeking a “dynamic and experienced” store manager to lead its team and drive the success of our retail location.

“The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing daily operations, ensuring exceptional customer service, and managing staff effectively,” the Indeed.ca job posting stated. “This role requires strong leadership skills, a passion for retail, and the ability to create a positive shopping experience for our customers.”

The job posting goes on to say that a successful store manager will manage daily store operations and inventory; lead, train and motivate a team of employees to achieve sales goals; and monitor sales performance and execute strategies to enhance productivity and profitability, among a multitude of job responsibilities. A Foodsafe certification is preferred. The pay range is $18.24 to $25.00 an hour at 40 hours per week, with overtime pay and tips expected.

The job posting specifically lists 45881 Wellington Avenue in downtown Chilliwack as the store location. Fraser Valley Today visited that address last week and saw branded signage for a former business named Unforgettable, a “pre-loved” woman’s clothing store whose last day in business was Monday, May 12, 2025. It had been open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., before closing its doors for good on May 12.

Jamie Best, director of communications and legislative services for the City of Chilliwack, told Fraser Valley Today last week in an email that the city’s business licensing division has confirmed they have an application under review for Penguin Ice Cream, but a license has not yet been issued.
