CHILLIWACK — A Chilliwack restaurant known for serving butter chicken and offering free food to the community on previous occasions has left its Vedder Road location and relocated to the Yale Road corridor.

Brar Pawandeep reached out to Fraser Valley Today last week to report that Butter Chicken House has left its previous location of 5669 Vedder Road and has now set up inside John’s Fried Chicken at 45731 Hocking Avenue, near Yale/Hocking, in unit 3, effective April 1. It should be noted that a Google search for Butter Chicken House in Chilliwack still shows 5669 Vedder Road, while signage continues to be affixed to its former Vedder Road location with Butter Chicken House branding.

Butter Chicken House will be open seven days a week from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. inside John’s Fried Chicken, which also houses Midtown Cafe.

Chilliwack residents who still crave their butter chicken, garlic naan or veggie pakoras can order through Door Dash, Skip the Dishes and Uber Eats.

During its time on Vedder Road, Butter Chicken House tried to build goodwill with the community. As an act of community kindness, the restaurant gave away free food on April 14, 2024 for four hours, offering chickpea curry (chana masala) with rice and pop. In January 2024, the restaurant gave away free veggie pakoras, veggie samosas and chai to anyone walking by their Vedder Road location because they wanted to give back to the community and perhaps elevate their community profile.

The restaurant described itself on Facebook as a “family-run love place, open 7 days a week for dine-in, take out and delivery; famous for authentic food.”

Pawandeep says the restaurant relocated due to what she calls “good location and good exposure” as the primary reasons, and not because of any redevelopment that may occur at the property behind it where the Sardis Bottle Depot was once located.

The Royal Canadian Legion Branch 295, located directly next door at 5661 Vedder Road, has been actively looking for a new building home. It posted on social media in May saying it was looking for a building of about 5,000 square feet.
