Chilliwack launches curbside recycling program for ‘Star’ residents
CHILLIWACK — The City of Chilliwack’s latest recycling program is taking it all the way back to grade school– by handing out stickers to outstanding recycling “stars”.
From June to December, City staff and co-op students will be giving star stickers for the new Curbside Recycling Star program. Residents with only compliant materials receive a gold sticker with instructions on how to enter the prize draw. Those with only one type of non-compliant material are given a blue star indicating which items need to be removed from the bin.
“It’s important to stay diligent with our recycling practices to keep our community as clean as possible and divert as much material as possible from the landfill,” said Mayor Ken Popove. “I hope to see many gold star stickers around Chilliwack neighbourhoods this summer.”
Contamination in blue bins lowers the quality of products made from recycled materials. More information on which items to look out for, as well as the Star Program in general, are available on the City’s website.
