
Small plane crashes in farmer’s field on Seabird Island Monday night, resulting in cockpit fire
SEABIRD ISLAND — A spokesperson for the Agassiz RCMP detachment has confirmed that a small plane crashed in a farmer’s field on Seabird Island Monday evening.
According to a statement from the Upper Fraser Valley Regional Detachment, Mounties in Agassiz responded at 8:18 p.m. Monday night (May 26) for the report of a plane crash. Police say the lone occupant of the plane was able to land in field located between Lougheed Highway and the Fraser River. After exiting the aircraft, the pilot tried to extinguish a fire that had started in the cockpit, but the fire quickly engulfed the area.
The aircraft in question is believed to match the picture accompanying this story.
Agassiz Fire Department and Seabird Island Fire Department responded to the scene and worked to contain the fire.
