Male youth dies after reported stabbing at Larch Park in Abbotsford

UPDATE TUESDAY, 1:35 P.M.:Homicide detectives in British Columbia have now identified the victim of Sunday night’s stabbing in Abbotsford in hopes of advancing the investigation.

According to a statement issued Tuesday afternoon by Integrated Homicide Investigation Team spokesperson Sgt. Freda Fong, 16-year-old Billy Ledoux died after an altercation Sunday night at Larch Park, located in the 2600 block of Beck Road in Abbotsford.

“Our thoughts are with his family, friends and classmates. As the community mourns the loss of Billy, his family asks that all come together to remember and celebrate his life. They are encouraging the community to seek peace, not revenge,” Sgt. Fong said. “Billy was only 16 years old and had his whole life ahead of him.”

ABBOTSFORD — A spokesperson for the Abbotsford Police Department has confirmed that a male youth has died after a reported stabbing at Larch Park in Abbotsford Sunday evening (May 25).

According to a statement from AbbyPD Sgt. Paul Walker, AbbyPD patrol officers responded Sunday evening, May 25 at 7:36 p.m. for the report of a stabbing at Larch Park, located in the 2600 block of Beck Road. When they arrived, officers located a male youth suffering from critical, life-threatening injuries. Despite what police say were immediate efforts of bystanders and first responders, the youth tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Sgt. Walker says two youth suspects have been arrested. Larch Park is currently closed to the public as a significant police presence remains in the area. Police say early indications suggest this incident to be targeted and not random. The Abbotsford Police Department’s Major Crime Unit has launched an investigation and will be transitioning the case to the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT). IHIT’s media team will provide further updates as the investigation advances.

Anyone who was in the vicinity of Larch Park between 6:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m., or who may have dashcam footage from the area, is urged to contact the IHIT Infoline at 1-877- 551-4448.
