CHILLIWACK — Just when you thought Chilliwack gas prices were dropping a few cents here and there to around $1.559 per litre this week, motorists around Chilliwack saw an unexpected double-digit increase Wednesday.

Gas prices rose Wednesday nearly 20 cents at some Chilliwack gas stations, increasing from about $1.569/litre to a whopping $1.769 per litre.

And it wasn’t at just one or two gas stations in Sardis or assorted stations.

According to pictures posted on X/Twitter by Mark Smith, gas prices rose to $1.769/litre at multiple Chilliwack gas stations along Vedder Road.

Prices have resembled a roller coaster this month. They were down to about $1.609/litre on Sunday, May 11, before rising to $1.699/litre on Tuesday, May 13, and now up to $1.769 per litre.

Back in early April when the B.C. government axed the consumer carbon tax at the pumps, gas prices fell by more than 10 cents a litre to the delight of beleaguered motorists who often voiced their dismay on social media. But those days of gas savings were short lived, based on this month’s price points.
