New retailer in Chilliwack

New records store coming to Chilliwack, hiring employees

CHILLIWACK — A Canada-wide records store selling records and other physical media plans to open a new location in Chilliwack in 2025.

According to an email of confirmation from the company itself, Sunrise Records will be coming to the Cottonwood Centre Mall in the coming months.

“Hi Mike, we are coming to Chilliwack in the coming months. Any confirmation and updates/timeline can be found on our Facebook or Instagram pages,” Sunrise Records wrote in an email.

Mark Davis, general manager of PCI Warrington, the company entrusted with leasing space at Cottonwood, told Fraser Valley Today in an email Monday morning that Sunrise Records will open in the vacant space next to Shoe Company.

In the “About Us” section of its website, Sunrise Records says it is a proud Canadian record store chain that was founded in Toronto in 1977. It grew to become one of the five major record stores in Canada alongside HMV Canada, Music World, Sam the Record Man, and A&A Records.

In October 2014, Sunrise Records expanded by opening new locations in Ontario. Three years later, after HMV Canada announced it would close its doors permanently, Sunrise Records acquired the leases for 70 HMV retail outlets and converted them to Sunrise Records stores. Sunrise Records has nine stores in British Columbia, 13 in Alberta, five in Saskatchewan, three in Manitoba, 28 in Ontario, 15 in Quebec and six in Atlantic Canada.

In the last week, Sunrise Records has been posting on Indeed.ca seeking part-time sales associates in Chilliwack. The company listed 45585 Luckakuck Way, where Cottonwood Centre mall is located, in its job posting. The posted salary for part-time sales associates is $17.40/hour.

“Sales associate is responsible for providing an outstanding customer experience by sharing excellent product knowledge, passion about the products, and friendly service at all times,” the Sunrise Records job posting stated. “We are looking for someone who thrives in a trendy, fast-paced, fun, and dynamic environment, and who has a contagious passion for music, movies, toys, and games. As a Keyholder, you will be responsible for opening and closing the store when scheduled.”
