CHILLIWACK — Cultus Lake Fire was dispatched at around noon Saturday (May 17) for a reported medical aid call involving a 34-year-old male who had a mountain biking accident on Vedder Mountain.

According to scanner traffic, Cultus Lake’s duty chief was advised at about 11:58 a.m. for a traumatic injury reported two kilometres up Vedder Mountain Forest Service Road, located west to northwest of Cultus Lake. Emergency dispatch advised Cultus Lake firefighters about the limited response area.

At 12:09 p.m., Cultus Lake firefighters asked Chilliwack Search and Rescue to be paged if they hadn’t already been notified.

Responding firefighters conducted an assessment of the patient and said they hoped he would be OK. They told dispatch at 12:16 p.m. that the patient had experienced a spinal injury.

At 12:21 p.m., fire crews asked that SAR be cancelled and said the drive up Vedder Mountain Forest Service Road was an easy one for ambulance crews, since firefighters and paramedics often work hand in hand on many emergency calls.

B.C. Ambulance Service arrived on scene at 12:23 p.m.

The patient has been left in care of B.C. Ambulance Service, and Cultus Lake Fire is clear of the incident as of 12:37 p.m.
