CHILLIWACK — Back in early April when the B.C. government axed the consumer carbon tax at the pumps, gas prices fell by more than 10 cents a litre to the delight of beleaguered motorists who often voiced their dismay on social media.

But those days of gas savings appear to be over, thanks to the latest petrol prices reported at multiple stations in Sardis.

Prices of $1.699/litre began appearing Tuesday morning at the Shell gas station at 7670 Vedder Road, the Chevron just down the road at 7520 Vedder Road, the Petro Canada at 7591 Vedder Road, and the Esso at Vedder/Luckakuck. All four gas stations bore identical prices.

Earlier this week, prices were hovering around the $1.579/litre mark to around $1.599/l, but few gas stations had prices exceeding the $1.60/l mark like they do throughout Chilliwack today for regular gas.

For historical reference, gas prices in Chilliwack fell to about $1.61/l on Tuesday, April 1 after the B.C. NDP government fast-tracked legislation in an effort to kill off the tax, in time to coincide with the demise of the federal version of the tax.
