CHILLIWACK — A pickup truck tumbled down an embankment, possibly as much as 50 feet, just off Vedder Mountain Road in Chilliwack on Tuesday evening and onto a popular Chilliwack trail.

According to scanner traffic information, and witness descriptions provided to Fraser Valley Today, a pickup truck veered off Vedder Mountain Road and wound up sideways on the Vedder Rotary Loop Trail, a hiking path used by pedestrians and cyclists alike. No trail users were injured by the vehicle rollover. Scanner traffic indicated a vehicle went about 50 feet over an embankment.

First responders were dispatched for the rollover at about 6:50 p.m. Tuesday evening.

Pictures provided to Fraser Valley Today show a heavily damaged pickup truck on its side, with first responders attending.

A witness said a male occupant of the vehicle got himself out of the vehicle by kicking the windshield before exiting the pickup truck.

The lone occupant reportedly suffered lacerations.

A Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson says Mounties received a call at about 6:51 p.m. Tuesday evening from BC EHS paramedics advising them of a single-vehicle collision between Cultus Lake and Vedder Mountain Road. Police attended and spoke to the driver who sustained minor injuries. Driver error is believed to be the cause, and alcohol was not a factor.

Debris from the vehicle rollover was still left on the hiking trail as of Wednesday morning, but was eventually cleaned up by Wednesday afternoon.
