Abbotsford high school to present beloved musical West Side Story

ABBOTSFORD — St. John Brebeuf High School in Abbotsford invites the community to experience a classic tale about forbidden love, warring gangs, and tested friendships in the timeless classic, West Side Story, playing this week.

This 21st century adaptation of Romeo and Juliet was written by Arthur Laurents, with music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim. Spectators are invited to head to the theatre to witness the school’s take on one of the world’s most beloved musicals.

Whether you grew up with the original Broadway cast recording or are a fan of the 2023 film remake, St. John Brebeuf hopes attendees will love the SJB Players’ rendition of West Side Story. As part of the school’s ongoing commitment to the arts and community engagement, St. John Brebeuf is proud to present this powerful and poignant production, showcasing the talent and dedication of our student performers and crew.

The iconic musical exploring love, loyalty and social divides will be performed Thursday evening, Apr. 24 at 7 p.m., Friday morning, Apr. 25 at 10:30 a.m. for a matinee performance, and Friday evening at 7 p.m., at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way, in Abbotsford.
