Two semi-truck drivers seriously injured in Coquihalla Highway crash

COQUIHALLA HIGHWAY — A collision between two semi-trucks on the Coquihalla Highway south of Merritt Monday evening sent both drivers to hospital with serious injuries.

Merritt RCMP say officers were called to the stretch of Highway 5 shortly after 6 p.m. Monday (April 21) as two semi tractors with attached trailers had collided in the southbound lanes.

RCMP say one of the drivers had to be extracted by Merritt Fire Department. Additionally, one was air lifted to Royal Columbian Hospital in New Westminster.

“The cause of the collision is still under investigation”, S/Sgt. Josh Roda says. “It’s a stark reminder that even when conditions are clear, collisions can happen.”
