Chilliwack firefighters extinguish hedge fire at strata complex overnight, with smoke visible from afar
CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters were dispatched early Tuesday morning (Apr. 15) for a hedge fire at a strata complex on Chilliwack Central Road near Valley Toyota.
According to Chilliwack resident Julie Hiscock, who monitors emergency dispatch during her graveyard work shift, firefighters were paged at 1:54 a.m. overnight for a hedge fire in the 46000 block of Chilliwack Central Road.
Around the time that they were attending the hedge fire, Chilliwack Fire’s duty chief, Engines 1-2 and 4, and Tower 1 were dispatched at 2:06 a.m. Tuesday morning for the report of smoke in the 46000 block of Fifth Avenue. When firefighters drove down Fifth Avenue, they did not see any house that had smoke coming from it and figured it was from the hedge fire, according to scanner traffic.
When firefighters finished putting out the hedge fire, they located some bark mulch smouldering down the street.
