CHILLIWACK — Environment Canada says strong winds of up to 80 km/h are expected later today in the Fraser Valley and Vancouver Island.

According to a statement issued Thursday morning by the national weather agency, gusty winds are expected to arrive in the Fraser Valley this later today and into the evening.

A vigorous front will cross the South Coast today. In the midst of this front, strong and gusty southwesterly winds will develop this afternoon. Localized wind gusts up to 80 km/h can be expected. The winds will ease this evening as the front moves into the interior.

Environment Canada says loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage. High winds may result in power outages and fallen tree branches.
