Update: Power restored after downed tree causes lengthy outage in Harrison, Agassiz

UPDATE: Power has been restored to Harrison Hot Springs and Agassiz.

HARRISON HOT SPRINGS — A downed tree across BC Hydro power lines has left over 1,700 customers without power in Harrison Hot Springs and parts of Agassiz Sunday afternoon.

According to the BC Hydro dashboard, 1,727 customers lost power at 4:18 p.m. Sunday afternoon due to a downed tree across hydro lines.

The outage covers most of Harrison Hot Springs, Rockwell Drive along Harrison Lake, and extends south along Highway 9 to an area northwest of Agassiz city centre.

Crews are on scene and hope to have power restored by 10:45 p.m. Sunday evening.

On a related note, Harrison Hot Springs firefighters were dispatched at about 4:30 p.m. after a few guests at the Harrison Hot Springs Hotel on Esplanade Avenue were caught inside an elevator due to the outage. The guests were eventually extricated from the elevator. According to scanner traffic at 4:58 p.m., firefighters went to the fifth floor of the hotel to assist the guests who were stuck inside the elevator. Incident command was terminated at 4:58 p.m. Sunday.
