3 Abbotsford PD officers assaulted amid yet another busy weekend for police
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department says three of its officers were assaulted over the weekend in a 3-day span that saw over 300 police files ranging from break-ins to domestic violence calls and more.
AbbyPD said its frontline teams handled 306 police files between 5 p.m. Friday and 6 a.m. Monday morning, consisting of break and enters, assaults, domestics, mischiefs, bylaw infractions, traffic issues, weapons-related calls and a serious pedestrian collision.
Three of its officers were assaulted over the weekend, but AbbyPD says they suffered only minor injuries.
Throughout the weekend, officers initiated numerous checks on liquor establishments and performed curfew checks on offenders out on bail. Police say its proactive traffic enforcement measures were also a priority, resulting in 40 violation tickets being issued, various driving suspensions, arrests for prohibited driving, and the impoundment of vehicles driven by excessive speeders. Additionally, officers identified and removed another 22 impaired drivers.
