UPDATE: 3-year-old boy dies after fatal motor vehicle collision in Chilliwack

UPDATE 11:40 A.M., WEDNESDAY: Chilliwack RCMP have now confirmed that a 3-year-old pedestrian has died after a serious motor vehicle collision at Vedder Road and Petawawa Road in Chilliwack. According to a statement from police, Chilliwack RCMP frontline officers responded to a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian at 10 a.m. Wednesday morning (Mar. 5) at Vedder/Petawawa. Emergency responders arrived on scene and provided immediate medical assistance. The child, age 3, sadly succumbed to their injuries.

Police say the driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with the investigation.

Integrated Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Service (ICARS) personnel will be attending to assist with the investigation. The intersection has been closed in all directions. Police say this closure will impact access to the Vedder Bridge from Vedder Road as well as access to Petawawa Road from Keith Wilson Road.

“We extend our deepest condolences to the child’s family and loved ones during this unimaginable time,” said Inspector Harinder Kheleh from the Chilliwack RCMP detachment. “This is a heartbreaking incident that affects the entire community.”

No further details will be released at this time out of respect for the family.

CHILLIWACK — A serious motor vehicle collision has shut down a major intersection in Chilliwack, with police urging drivers and pedestrians to stay away. Witnesses have told FraserValleyToday that a pedestrian may be involved.

RCMP say Vedder Road is closed indefinitely from Keith Wilson Road to the Vedder Bridge as officers investigate the crash. The intersection at Vedder Road and Petawawa Road is also shut down.

Paramedics, fire department and police personnel are at the site to deal with the incident.

Police are asking the public to use alternate routes and obey traffic control measures in place. Authorities warn the area will likely remain closed for several hours, leading to potential delays.
