CHILLIWACK — Prospective students are invited to try their hands at some in-demand skills this week at the University of the Fraser Valley’s Chilliwack campus.

Tours will be held for UFV’s trades and technology, health sciences and agriculture programs. Visitors can expect a unique showcase from each stream, such as:

  • Trades: a 34-foot trailer with simulators and virtual reality technology to experience the trades industry first-hand,
  • Agriculture: greenhouses, agriculture labs, and outdoor learning spaces, and
  • Health Sciences: live demos of clinical techniques and hands-on health care practices.

A Work BC report says that health care and construction rank among the top five industries with the highest number of job openings from 2023 to 2033.

Numbers from the Buy BC initiative also reported a record $20 billion in sales from the province’s agriculture, seafood, and food and beverage processing industry in 2022– with more than 73,000 total jobs provided across those fields.

Roughly 2,800 UFV students lived in Chilliwack during the 2023/24 school year.

The Building Your Future open house is set to run on February 27th from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Registration is available through the event website.
