CHILLIWACK — Roughly 30 Chilliwack firefighters quickly tackled a Friday afternoon (Feb. 21) fire on the 44000 block of Simpson Road, off Unsworth Road. The affected facility was believed to specialize in recycling waste from used cooking oil and grease traps.

According to the Chilliwack Fire Department, crews from four fire halls rolled in at around 5 p.m. and found the fire in an industrial building’s material dryer and conveyor system.

After getting into the seat of the fire within the machinery, firefighters were able to do their work without damaging any of the equipment, but the intense heat caused the blaze to spread to some paint on the roof.
