FRASER VALLEY — A 40-year-old man remains in custody ahead of his next court appearance later this month after being charged by the B.C. Prosecution Service for assault and sexual assault in two separate incidents that occurred in the Fraser Valley.

According to a statement from Surrey Police Service Staff Sergeant Lindsey Houghton, an investigation led by the RCMP’s Vulnerable Persons Unit within the Surrey Provincial Operations Support Unit (SPOSU) eventually resulted in the approval of multiple charges by Crown prosecutors in relation to two victims.

On October 17, 2024, police received a report from a male victim who stated he had been allegedly assaulted by a man on two occasions at an apartment in the area of 141 Street and 104 Avenue, Surrey.

The SPOSU Vulnerable Persons Unit launched an investigation before the 40-year-old suspect, William Alexander “Alex” Kroesen, was arrested on November 28, 2024. The suspect was released without charges pending further investigation and released on an undertaking with conditions to have no direct or indirect contact with the victim.

On January 31, 2025, police received a report from a second victim who stated he had allegedly been sexually assaulted by a man at an apartment in the same area as the previously reported assault.

Investigators executed a search warrant at the apartment and arrested the male suspect. Kroesen was held in police custody and on February 1, 2025, he was formally charged by the B.C. Prosecution Service with one count each of the following offences:

  • Assault
  • Uttering threats
  • Sexual assault
  • Choking to overcome resistance
  • Unlawful confinement

Kroesen was remanded into custody and on February 10, 2025, he was charged with two additional counts of assault by choking in connection with the incidents that occurred in October 2024.

William Kroesen remains in custody and his next court appearance is scheduled for February 25, 2025.

Police have released a photo of Kroesen, who also goes by the name “Alex”, because authorities suspect people in Surrey might have additional information that will assist in advancing these investigations. Investigators are encouraging anyone with information to contact the SPOSU Vulnerable Persons Unit at 604-599-0502 and quote file number 2024-151349 (SU).
