Lower Mainland dump truck driver gets 10 tickets after striking hydro pole, lamp post
LOWER MAINLAND – Police are reminding commercial truck drivers to conduct pre-trip inspections after a dump truck collided with a lamp post and hydro pole earlier this month, resulting in 10 violation tickets for the driver.
According to a news release from the B.C. RCMP, Burnaby RCMP frontline officers responded to the report of a single-vehicle collision involving a dump truck on Boundary Road on Monday, January 13 shortly after 1 p.m. On arrival, police discovered the dump truck had struck a lamp post and hydro pole, knocking them both over. There were no injuries, but traffic and the nearby train track were affected for several hours that day.
“Our investigators believe that a proper pre-trip inspection could have caught several defects that may have prevented this collision,” said Burnaby RCMP Corporal Mike Kalanj. “We are extremely lucky that nobody was hurt as a result of this incident, as the truck was travelling downhill with ineffective brakes.”
The truck was later towed and inspected by a Burnaby RCMP Traffic Services officer, as well as a Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement (CVSE) officer. As a result of the inspection, the truck and trailer were issued a notice and order, removing it from the roadway until the vehicle complies with the Motor Vehicle Act and Regulations.
