Update: Chilliwack fire chief says fire that destroyed 2 barns appears accidental in nature

Jan 15, 2025 | 7:25 AM

Update 1:45 p.m. Wednesday: Chilliwack Fire Chief Andrew Brown says 43 firefighters from all six fire halls in Chilliwack responded to a report of a structure fire in the 5800 block of Blackburn Road. On arrival, fire crews observed a working structure fire with two barns heavily engulfed in flames.

Chief Brown says fire crews worked quickly to execute an exterior attack while establishing a secure water supply to help bring the fire under control. Hose streams were deployed to protect adjacent barns and structures, limiting the damage to the two structures initially involved. The two barns initially involved were destroyed by the fire.

There was no firefighter, or civilian injuries. The cause of the fire appears to be accidental, Chief Brown said.
