HOPE — A fire at a multi-unit residential development in Hope Tuesday night (Dec. 3) caused significant damage to one of its units, prompting the deployment of Emergency Support Services personnel.

Hope Fire Department crews were dispatched Tuesday evening after receiving reports of an alarm activation and visible smoke inside a multi-unit residential development on Park Street

Hope Fire says firefighters received a page at 7 p.m. Tuesday. On arrival, crews learned the building had been evacuated. Firefighters located a room within a unit where the fire had occurred, prompting the building’s sprinkler system to activate and extinguish the blaze. Unfortunately, the unit sustained significant smoke and fire damage.

Hope Fire says firefighters focused on ventilating and mitigating water runoff. As a result, most of the residents were able to safely return to their units.

“This situation could have been much worse,” said Deputy Chief Joshua Westcott. “Fire sprinklers saved lives and property tonight”.

Emergency Support Services (ESS) personnel were activated to provide assistance to the resident of the unit where the fire occurred. Thirteen fire fighters attended the incident and remained on scene until 9:30 p.m. to make sure the incident was fully resolved. Hope Fire says one person was treated on scene for smoke inhalation. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
