ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Police Department is revisiting an alleged abduction attempt from late August as a Crime Stoppers ‘Crime of the Week.’

Investigators say they are still seeking information about the unresolved incident in which a man allegedly tried to pull a woman into his vehicle near hiking trails at Sumas Mountain Regional Park.

The August 29 incident happened in broad daylight around 1:30 p.m. and involved a female hiker who told police she had been approached by an unknown male attempting to pull her into his pickup for ‘unknown reasons.’

The female hiker was able to break free and escape, according to police spokesperson Const. Art Stele.

“The Abbotsford Police Department would like to inform the public to increase vigilance and use caution when hiking the trails in and around the area of Sumas Mountain Regional Park,” Stele urged.

The suspect is described as a male in his late 20s to early 30s, 5’9″ tall, with a medium build, short blonde or orange hair, and wearing a white T-shirt.

His truck is described as a newer model white open-box pickup with stock tires and suspension.

Anyone with information about the case or camera footage from around the time of the incident can contact Det. Nathan Perrey of the AbbyPD’s Major Crime Unit at Nathan.perrey@abbypd.ca
