CHILLIWACK — A set of drums and bells are part of a music equipment donation aiding therapy efforts at a long-term care home in Chilliwack.

A spokesperson for Fraser Valley Health says music programs at Heritage Village have been enriched as residents take to the new instruments, which arrived in August, offering therapeutic benefits.

“In particular, our Bell Choir experience has been enhanced with the extra set of bells to use,” said local music therapist Marni Brechin.

“The residents have greatly enjoyed using the drums and trying out the different timbres.”

The equipment was part of a donation from the Fraser Valley Health Care Foundation, which raises funds for vital equipment and programs in Abbotsford, Mission, Chilliwack, and other nearby communities.

In a list of needs on the foundation’s website, music lessons and instruments are part of a Psychosis Intervention Wish List.
