Man who drowned at Cultus Lake leaves behind loving wife, 2 young kids
CULTUS LAKE — The man who tragically drowned last weekend at Cultus Lake is being remembered as a loving husband and father of two young children.
According to an online fundraiser started in his name, the victim of Saturday’s drowning at Cultus Lake has been identified as Langley resident Wilson Dargbeh. The tragedy unfolded in front of his family during his daughter’s 5th birthday party when he entered the lake where it was reportedly 52 feet deep.
In a statement from the Chilliwack RCMP, Mounties say Dargbeh had gone into the water and failed to resurface. Bystanders in the area immediately began searching for him but were unable to locate Dargbeh. Chilliwack RCMP, Chilliwack Search and Rescue, Cultus Lake Fire Department, and BC Emergency Health Services were dispatched to assist in the rescue efforts. An extensive search was conducted both on foot and by boat but the man was not located on Saturday. The B.C. RCMP Dive Team attended on Sunday, September 8, and was able to locate and recover the man’s body. The B.C. Coroners Service attended the scene and confirmed there were no indications of foul play.
Dargbeh immigrated from Liberia to Langley in order to provide for his family, and obtained a scholarship from UBC with a Master of Public Policy and Global Affairs program. He was employed as a policy analyst for the Vehicle Sales Authority of B.C. in Langley, according to GoFundMe.
