UPDATE FRIDAY AT 8:40 A.M.: Sue Attrill Knott has not dropped out of this year’s provincial election. Attrill Knott’s campaign manager reached out to Fraser Valley Today Friday morning to clarify that the candidate has not officially dropped out.

Attrill Knott had posted a message on Thursday thanking people for their support.

“Thank you to everyone for their overwhelming support,” Attrill Knott said on her BC United Facebook page. “I could not have imagined that the BC United would be pulling out of the race. If this will defeat the NDP, I am in full support of the decision. Whoever you are supporting, please make sure you vote on October 19th. It is very important to have your say. Thank you to my Team for being so amazing. Mel and Sheila, I am so grateful for your friendship.”

Attrill Knott did not respond to a message from Fraser Valley Today seeking comment Thursday afternoon. Her campaign manager indicated the campaign had been inundated with messages.

Adam Wilson, deputy campaign manager for BC United, told Fraser Valley Today in an email that the party is in the process of revoking candidate nominations.

“The BC United constitution provides the Leader of BC United with unilateral right to revoke any and all candidate nominations at their sole discretion, without consultation. BC United is in the process of revoking all candidate nominations. The Board of Directors of BC United supported the decision made by the Leader,” Wilson told Fraser Valley Today in an email.
The provincial election was thrown into disarray after BC United Leader Kevin Falcon abruptly announced earlier this week that he was quitting his own race in this fall’s provincial election. However, BC United and the B.C. Conservative Party were slated to discuss which candidates would emerge in each riding to appear on the ballot opposite the B.C. NDP and B.C. Greens.

Attrill Knott was selected as the BC United MLA candidate in February 2024. She brought an impressive slate of business experience spanning four decades in the business world. She began her career at B.C. Telephone and attained the role of senior manager before retiring in 2004. She transitioned seamlessly to the Chilliwack Chamber where she served as its CEO for several productive years.

After her time at the Chilliwack Chamber, she set her sights on public service and was elected to Chilliwack council in 2008, getting reelected three times until she stepped down in 2022. She has overseen Chilliwack Hospice Society as its executive director for the past seven years.

She is married to husband Norm Knott and has two adult daughters, Melody and Haley.

By getting into the race, Attrill Knott has been looking unseat incumbent MLA Kelli Paddon, who was elected in October 2020 to represent Chilliwack-Kent. Paddon garnered 8,268 votes, or 36.42 percent of the vote tally, ahead of former MLA Laurie Throness, who received 6,964 votes, or 30.68 per cent of the vote. Current Chilliwack Councillor Jason Lum received 5,370 votes (23.6 per cent) as an independent candidate. The Green Party candidate received 8 per cent of the vote, followed by Eli Gagne of the Libertarian Party (1.2 per cent).
