DOGWOOD VALLEY (FRASER CANYON, B.C.)  — A spokesperson for the Hope RCMP says a 61-year-old man remains in custody for his alleged role in a shooting that left one man hospitalized with serious injuries in Dogwood Valley last week.

According to a statement from Staff Sgt. Mike Sargent, Mounties in Hope were dispatched on Thursday, August 1 at about 5 a.m. to the area of Yurkin Road in Dogwood Valley for the report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. Responding officers and paramedics arrived at the scene and located the seriously injured man, who was taken to hospital.

Police say investigators promptly identified a suspect. Following an ongoing investigation, Sgt. Sargent said police took a 61-year-old man into custody without incident on August 5, 2024. The accused remains in custody and is facing multiple charges like aggravated assault and weapons offences. The victim continues to recuperate from the injuries and is expected to make a full recovery, police said.

“The coordinated efforts and hard work of the Hope RCMP members have ensured that the perpetrator of this violent act remains in custody and have helped keep the residents of the Yale community safe,” said S/Sgt Mike Sargent of the Hope RCMP.
