Historical military explosive leads to evacuation near Victoria

NORTH SAANICH — Mounties from the Sidney North Saanich detachment say crews responded Saturday after receiving a report of a possible historical military explosive device being dropped off at a local thrift store.
Police say employees from the store contacted police and the area was evacuated as a safety precaution.
RCMP said in a statement around 5 p.m. Saturday they would continue to work with their partners to ensure that the object is safe.
There’s no immediate word on what the device was or whether it posed a threat.
