CHILLIWACK — Wildfire crews are keeping a close eye on the Harrison Hill fire north of Chilliwack. There has been very little growth of the fire since it was discovered Friday (Aug. 9).

The BC Wildfire Service (BCWS) says a helicopter is being used to attack the fire which is located in steep terrain. It says the fire poses no immediate threats to homes or infrastructure in the area at this time. The fire remains under an acre in size. Investigators suggest it was ignited by a lightning strike.

Meantime the BCWS assigned an initial attack crew to a wildfire near Church Mountain south of Chilliwack. The small fire is just north of the border with the United States. The fire was first spotted fire and remains under a hectare in size. The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.

A new wildfire was spotted early Saturday evening east of Chilliwack Lake near Mount Edgar. The BCWS estimates the fire has burned less than a hectare of timber. Investigators suggest a lightning storm that crossed through the area recently was likely the cause.
