CHILLIWACK — As the B.C. Day long weekend kicks off, the Chilliwack Fire Department is urging residents to take extra precautions to prevent fires amidst a forecast of hot weather. Environment Canada predicts daily highs around 30°C through the weekend, increasing the risk of fire ignition and spread in the dry conditions.

To help keep the community safe, the Fire Department has provided several fire safety tips.

When using barbeque grills, it is important to maintain clearance from combustible materials such as decks, fences, and vegetation.

Barbeque users should also allow ashes to cool completely before disposing of them in metal containers, as ashes can retain ignition temperatures for many hours, even if they appear cool to the touch.
