Abbotsford Agrifair underway
ABBOTSFORD — The Abbotsford Agrifair has taken over the Abbotsford Exhibition Park for its annual weekend celebration, aimed at bridging the gap between urban and rural communities. The event promotes the importance of agriculture and showcases local talent, involving much of the Abbotsford community.
The fair which has been operating since 1909, features the annual 4-H show, highlighting the farmers and youth of tomorrow. These dedicated young individuals spend countless hours preparing their animals for competitions held throughout the province, including Abbotsford’s own fair. Visitors can explore the decorated stalls and educational displays, getting up close with a variety of animals.
The Fraser Valley Antique Farm Machinery Association (FVAFMA) will also be present, housed in the red Pioneer Barn at Exhibition Park. Established in 1977, the FVAFMA is a group of retired local farmers dedicated to preserving and restoring antique farming equipment. They educate the community on the significant role agriculture has played in the development of the region.
One of the highlights of this year’s Agrifair is the Extreme Dogs show. Touring the nation to promote animal rescue and pet adoption, the canine athletes will perform high-flying, extreme sports. Showtimes on Saturday and Sunday are at 1:30 p.m., 4:30 p.m., and 7:00 p.m. at the Lower Ground near the Cadet’s Building.
