Doctor shortage to impact Mission Memorial Hospital Friday night into Saturday
MISSION — Fraser Health says it will implement a temporary service interruption in the emergency department at Mission Memorial Hospital from Friday night (August 2) until Saturday morning due to what it calls “physician staffing challenges.”
According to an email from FHA spokesperson Gurleen Dhessi, Mission Memorial Hospital will have some services limited from 11 p.m. Friday night through to 8 a.m. Saturday morning. During the service interruption, Fraser Health says emergency trained nurses will remain on site and be available to support walk-in patients needing basic first aid, assist with re-direction of care, and/or transfer patients with urgent needs to a neighboring hospital.
Anyone with a life-threatening emergency, such as chest pain, difficulty breathing, or severe bleeding, should call 9-1-1 immediately and will be transported to the nearest available and appropriate facility. Fraser Health did not say if that was Abbotsford Regional Hospital or Chilliwack General Hospital.
Fraser Health says area residents can still contact health care professionals from Fraser Health Virtual Care at 1-800-314-0999 to speak with a registered nurse from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. seven-days-a-week. Residents can also call 8-1-1 outside of those hours to speak with a health service navigator or a registered nurse.
