**Update Wednesday: Power has now been restored in Abbotsford after a car hit a hydro pole Tuesday around noon, resulting in the closure of Costco for several hours Tuesday afternoon.**

**Update at 2:55 p.m. Tuesday: BC Hydro now estimates power might be restored by 10 p.m. tonight to 632 customers in the Sumas Way area and surrounding area.**

**Update at 1:02 p.m. Tuesday: Social media users say the Costco parking lot is “sheer mayhem” and are urging people not to come to the area. One person said it would have been beneficial to have traffic control in and out of the Costco parking lot, while another person posted at 1:09 p.m. that she had been stuck in the Costco parking lot for an hour trying to exit.**

ABBOTSFORD — Social media users are reporting that Costco is closed in Abbotsford after a motor vehicle collision in the area of Vye Road and Sumas Way.

According to a brief social media posting from the Abbotsford Police Department at 12:12 p.m. Tuesday (July 2), police say hydro pole repairs are underway following a motor vehicle collision. Vye Road between Riverside Road and Sumas Way will be temporarily closed in all directions. Repair crews are at the scene. Please avoid the area to prevent traffic congestion.

BC Hydro posted on its website that 632 customers near Sumas Way lost power at 11:34 a.m. due to a vehicle incident. Crews are on site. Its website was last updated at 1:22 p.m.
